Omeprazole Capsules (Generic Prilosec)
Omeprazole belongs to the class of proton pump inhibitors. They block the acid production by the stomach. This drug blocks the enzyme that produces acid in the stomach wall. Thereby the acid production decreases and stomach and esophagus heal. They are usually indicated to treat GERD that stands for gastroesophageal reflux disease. This condition is characterized by damage to the esophagus and causes symptoms like regurgitation, excessive production of acid in the stomach and heartburn. Omeprazole capsules 40 mg
Omeprazole is the active ingredient of each 40mg capsule present in the form of gastro-resistant grains. Other ingredients present are crospovidone, mannitol, poloxamer, hypromellose, magnesium stearate, yellow iron oxide E172iii, titanium dioxide E171, gelatin and triethyl citrate. 40 mg drug is indicated to reduce the acid production in the stomach.
Omeprazole capsules 20 mg dosage
The active ingredient of each omeprazole capsule of 20 mg is omeprazole substance.
This dosage is indicated to treat the following conditions in adults-Gastro-esophageal reflux disease symptomatic type, Duodenal ulcer Gastric ulcer Healing of Helicobacter pylori-infected ulcers Ulcers caused by NSAIDs drugs Increase in the acid production in the stomach due to Zollinger-Ellison syndrome which results in enlargement of the pancreas.
This dosage is indicated to treat the following conditions in children
Children who are above or equal to 1 year of age and weigh below 10 kg-Gastro-oesophageal reflux disease with symptoms like vomiting, sickness, and regurgitation.
Children over 4 years
20 mg Ompeprazole is prescribed to treat ulcers which are worsened by the infection caused by Helicobacter pylori. Antibiotics are also prescribed along with omeprazole that speeds up the treatment process as they heal the infection.
Contraindicated in following cases
Do not take the drug in case of hypersensitivity. If allergic to omeprazole or other ingredients present in it, do not take it. Do not take it if allergic to drugs containing PPIs.Not recommended if on nelfinavir prescribed for HIV patients.

How to use this drug?
This drug is available as a delayed-release capsule. Delayed-release capsule helps prevent the breaking down of this drug by stomach acids. This drug is available in both tablet as well as delayed-release capsule form. The drug is recommended to be taken at least one hour before the intake of a meal. It is usually prescribed to be taken once a day. In certain cases, twice a day prescription is written to eliminate the infection caused by Hpylori. Thrice a day is recommended if acid production in the stomach is very high. This drug is prescribed once a day and is to be taken in the morning time for a period of 14 days. If needed, another round of 14-day treatment can be repeated in every 4 months. However, a certified physician would decide about the further course of action.
Instructions related to the administration
Take omeprazole before the meal intake. Take the drug at the same time every day. Do not take the drug in more or less amount or for a longer duration than the prescription. Do not take two omeprazole doses at one time. If any dose gets missed, take it as soon as possible. If the next dose is due, forget the missed dose and go for next omeprazole dose on time. Take antacids along with omeprazole.
